About the University

TThe East Africa University marks 25 years since its establishment in 1999. The University has seen many innovations in the last two decades, which have contributed to its development and that of the nation. It has grown from a one campus-based university serving a student population of 200 to eight based campuses focused university serving over 5,000, currently.

GALKAYO CAMPUS
Galkayo Campus is one of the fastest-growing campuses of East Africa University. It is currently home
to programs from six faculties comprising over 18 departments:
1) Higher college of Islamic Studies (3 departments)
2) Faculty of Health Science (6 departments)
3) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
4) Faculty of Information Science and Technology (2 departments)
5) Faculty of Business and Management (3 departments)
6) Faculty of Social Science and Economics (3 departments)
7) Faculty of Engineering (Civil Engineering)

VISION: “To be the leading center for educational excellence in higher education and research that enhances our community, and contributes to the national development”

MISSION: East Africa University is a non-profit institution of higher education, its mission is to change lives for good by offering high quality and relevant lifelong education to anyone with the desire to learn.

The mission is based on these philosophical principles:

  • Education is a lifelong process and must be relevant to the student’s aspirations;
  • Education should be affordable and offered, as much as possible, at the student’s convenience; and
  • Opportunity to learn should be open to anyone with the desire to achieve
  • To provide high quality educational service that satisfies the different needs of our society.

OBJECTIVES

  • To offer students graduated from secondary schools and other higher institutions; quality knowledge.
  • To organize and offer quality training and skills to the people for development of the community.
  • To encourage learning education in different fields of varies faculties and programs.
  • To empower the educational level of the East Africa region.
  • To create awareness and confidence among the public to mobilize and use the input qualities and capabilities.
  • To prepare scientific research in different fields of varies faculties.
  • To promote peace and cohesion among the people of East Africa, and train manners and ethics in general that can help the coming generations to establish a sound future.

The student experience is at the heart of everything we do. Our goal is to transform that experience
and support our students as they become agile, innovative thinkers and leading global citizens.
Through our strategic direction, we want to provide a learning experience at a pace and depth that
will give our students the intellectual capacity and critical skills to engage in modern society.
We are committed to continued innovation in our program design and delivery, and supporting our
staff and students to achieve their best by setting high standards.


EAU Alumni
The University’s outstanding 10,000+ alumni include leaders in government, law, science, public service,
private sector, and religion. The University celebrates its alumni as its greatest assets. Their achievements
reflect well on the University and, in return, we work hard to strengthen our reputation.

University Amenities/Facilities.
We have up-to-date and quality services available at our campuses such as: computer ICT/ labs, chemistry labs, medical labs, library, lecture rooms, canteens, wireless internet, hospitals, car parking, a quarter for lecturers, and mosques.
Employment Opportunities for Our Graduates
Some of our graduates currently work with the United Nations, International NGO’s, business/industry, public sector/services, government (i.e. Ministries, parliament, etc.). Their high performance, commitments and the quality education have received has enabled them to sure high positions to implement their potential skills.

Embedding Quality Culture in Higher Education
Our quality assurance policy is meant to realise a number of benefits, such as: (i) Help EAU to know its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat. (ii) Initiate innovative and modern methods of pedagogy, (iii) Give EAU a sense of direction and identity, (iv) Provide society with reliable information on the quality of education offered, and (v) Promotes intra and inter-Institutional interactions.

Admission Procedures:
1. All candidates with a minimum of high school completion or equivalent are permitted for admission.
2. Applicants should submit proof of the qualifications they hold.
3. An entrance test will be conducted for the applicants.
4. An application fee per student.
5. Nationality, identity and age proof are to be submitted in a clip file with 2 passport-size photos.
6. Medical certificates are to be submitted to prove fitness.

Recourse and Reexamination Policies
Reexamination is applied when the student fails to gain enough marks for a course (for example the minimum 50% required for a course).
During the preparation for the reexamination, the student is given all the help, material and support to prepare for the reexamination.
If the student fails again at the reexamination, the student is required to recourse for the failed course.

Other rules about assessments are the following:
1. The student is required to sit for all course evaluations
2. The student is responsible to take part in the different evaluation of the substance (for example, the midterm exam).
3. If the student is absent from a subject assessment (other than the class activity) the student will fail even if the student has a higher score (for example, above 50% or 60%).
4. Arrangements ensure that a passing score of 50% or 60% is not just a guarantee of the subject. Participation of all assessments has two commitments: Passing Points (50% or 60%) and participation in a variety of assessment activities.
